PART-TIME TEACHER PROFESSIONAL LEARNING AND SCIENCE EDUCATOR
[color=#4c3f3a][size=4][font=Source Sans Pro]The Education Department at the Queens Botanical Garden provides workshops and tours to a large and diverse audience. The Teacher Professional Learning and Science Educator will primarily work with the Urban Advantage (UA) program, a citywide program that supports science education and investigations. UA connects both elementary and middle schools, teachers, students, and families with the excitement of scientific discovery and learning that takes place in eight renowned science-rich cultural institutions in New York City through developing and delivering rigorous pedagogy based teacher education workshops aligned to local, state, and national standards, providing on-site assistance at schools and directly engaging with students and families.
S/he reports to and assists the Professional Development Manager and the Head of Interpretation.
Assisting in the development and delivery of elementary and middle school teacher professional learning and school program workshops
Visiting schools throughout New York City to provide on-site support for teachers and students
Attending and providing activities at Family Science Events throughout New York City
Attending and supporting professional learning workshops at other institutions
Collaborating with partners at other institutions to assist in the delivery of the overall science initiative
Attending program and partnership meetings
Serving as a key contact for teachers, program partners, and various other individuals
Providing logistical support for educational programming
Maintaining and updating departmental records and documents
Updating and retrieving information from Google Docs and various databases
Assisting with other duties as assigned by the Professional Development Manager, the Head of Interpretation, and the Education Director
Master’s degree in science or science education or education
Three years of formal or informal science teaching experience
Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and Google Docs and the possibility of moderating online forums
The ability to multi-task and prioritize
High level of self-motivation and ability to anticipate programmatic needs
Excellent verbal, written, and organizational skills
Ability to travel and move materials between various locations
Schedule flexibility and ability to work weekends and evenings
Valid driver’s license
Fingerprint and criminal record check clean
Cannot have worked for the NYCDOE in the last year
20-25 hrs per week.
