Natural Selection - Evolution Simulation

Hello Life Science Teachers -

I'm looking for a replacement for the PhET Natural Selection simulation, as this is JAVA based and no longer runs on student Chromebooks.  PhET has not yet written a HTML5 version to update this simulation.

Does anyone have favorite Natural Selection/Evolution simulations to recommend for high school Life Science (sophomores) that are free (OER) and compatible with Chromebooks (no Java or Flash animations)?  HTML5 formats will run on Chromebooks.

I am looking for a simple introductory simulation of Natural Selection, where students can manipulate environmental variables (food supply, predators, weather, etc.) and see the impact on a population.

I have found the HHMI videos and simulations on:  Pocket Mouse Evolution and Lizards in an Evolutionary Tree.  Currently I use those with AP Biology students. so searching for something for introductory Life Science class.

Thanks!
Dorothy

One source I found online shares that SEPUP's Bird Beaks simulation works on chromebooks. I do not use these, so could not check, but here is the URL: http://sepuplhs.org/high/sgi/teachers/evolution_act11_sim.html

Thanks for the link. However, it came up as requiring Flash on my teacher Chromebook, so will not work on Chromebooks. My understanding is that both Google Chrome and Firefox are no longer supporting Flash. So many good science simulations were written in Flash too. We'll just have to search for new materials. Thanks for the simulation. Is there a handout that goes along with this or did you create your own?

Someone asked if there was a worksheet to go with the sim. I found this by doing a quick search. It looks like it should work. http://sepuplhs.org/sgi/evolution/sgi_evolution_ss_11_1.pdf

Dorothy, I have the same problem. Best I can do right now is Conway'sGame of Life. http://www.dcode.fr/game-of-life Eric

These are great resources being shared as well as great ideas! Simulations are a great way to teach a subject. It is so much more fun for the students because they are so interactive. I will definitely be using these ideas in the future.
