Hello, Please disregard the first post about Earth Day Activities. I posted incorrectly. Here is the correct post. I am wondering what some of you do for Earth Day. Hello, I am wondering what some of you do for Earth Day. My School has about 350 sixth graders and every year we have had the opportunity for a half day field trip related to Earth Day followed by indoor school activities. It is no longer possible for us to do what we have done in the past. We have a lot of flexibility to plan for this day...give me some ideas. Thanks a million ahead of time.

5 Walrus - Maintaining the Future
This unique collection contains a journal article that explains the process for students who would like to be active scientists by reporting collected data to NOAA. Several websites are reviewed and included that would support students in the collection and interpretation of data not only on the Walrus, but current data on the climatic conditions where these land mammals inhabit. An engaging, student inquiry activity from the book, "Climate Change" is also included.

5 Robotics in Real Life
This is a brief, not even two minute presentation, which allows students to see how robotics can be used in real science exploration. I will use this clip next year to introduce my new Underwater Robotics Club members to the "why" of ROVs. Great clip - highly recommended.

5 Finding Planets
This article describes an activity that explains how to find planets around other stars where the bright glare from a star interferes with seeing a tiny planet. Article includes both illustrations and algebra that would challenge students below a senior high school level. This is a good example of how astronomers go about finding those tiny planets.
