I am currently finishing up my Bachelor's in Physical Science at Kent State University. I look to coach in addition to teaching in my career. I would love to coach basketball and soccer at the varsity level. I love to cook, stay fit and exercise, being around my family and car racing. I look to balance my career enough so I am able to road course race in my free time, if I have any.

Wed Nov 22, 2017 1:18 PM in Classroom Management
Hi all, I just completed my first unit as a student teacher this month and I noticed that my classroom management could use some work. I want the students to be engaged, but still understand when their behavior is too much. I used review games multiple times, which I thought was great for their engagement levels. Sometimes it seemed hectic though bringing them back to the next question. I would...

I'm not sure if it's my computer, but there is no article that appears with that link. I am interested in that idea though! Thank you Megan!

With me being in my final year as an education major, I have been introduced to numerous ways to get students learning. Inquiry has been a large portion of that. As much as I love hands on activities and inquiry lessons, there is science content that needs to be addressed in a traditional setting though, in my opinion. There needs to be some physical evidence that students can go back to at any ti...

5 Fantastic Atomic Structure!
I loved this atomic structure sci object! I enjoyed how it provided a little history behind the makeup of an atom and the forces that are within the atom. I really like the charge introduction, which allows students to apply the charges for parts of the atom with little confusion. The "Check Your Thinking" allows you to review atomic structure concepts that have been covered.

4 Newton's Third Law
Before using this tutorial, I personally had a good understanding of Newton's Laws. After using it, it provided me with more thorough, valuable information. I would think that it would be useful to the students. It provided great hands-on activities for them to keep them engaged. The only problem I have with it is the mathematical concept of the law.

5 Writing skills are important in science!
This article was a great one to read. It was fantastic to read about the researching of science in the classroom. It is crucial for students to understand the importance of proper writing techniques early on. I am a pre-service teacher and still learn new writing techniques daily. It is much simpler than it needs to be. Simplifying it for students should be the main concern of reading and writing skills scientifically!
