Force and Motion
SciGuide: Force and Motion
This SciGuide is very well organized. It includes a map of the four main themes it addresses: 1) Position and Motion. 2) Newton’s First Law. 3) Newton’s Second Law. 4) Newton’s Third Law. It emphasizes how accurate descriptions of an object’s position and its change in position are essential for understanding the causes of motion and changes in motion. Newton’s Laws provide the solid framework of those causes. Resources available in this SciGuide promote an understanding of the content as well as how to apply the concepts through practical experiences. It includes excellent lesson plans that are appropriate for grade 5-8. However, these lesson plans can be tailored for grades 3-4 as it includes great websites and a wealth of resources.

Resources and Human Impact: Grades 5-8
This SciGuide is very informative. It is both grade and age appropriate for students in Grades 5-8 who are often encouraged to recycle, but may not fully understand its importance. This SciGuide focuses on three themes: 1) Addressing Resource Use. 2) Environment as a System. 3) Environmental Degradation. Each theme has a lesson plan that you can download along with samples of students’ work. Each theme has also keywords with valuable resources including interactive and informative websites. This SciGuide focuses on educating students about the human impact on the Earth’s resources. It includes websites that will help bring real-world data into the classroom, engage students in collaborative studies using real-time data. It also provides ideas on how to incorporate human impact into other studies such as ecosystems, math, and social studies.

Earth and Sky: Grade K-4
This SciGuide is very informative. It is both grade and age appropriate for students in Grades K-4 who have little comprehension of how gravity works, but can start to see its effects through observable patterns in the day and nighttime. It addresses changes that affect our lives such as gravity and seasons. It contains two themes: 1) Change in Earth and Sky. 2) Objects in the Sky. Each theme has a lesson plan that you can download along with samples of students’ work. Each theme has also keywords with valuable resources including interactive and informative websites. I believe this SciGuide is a great resource that includes valuable information and samples that could be used to enhance the learning experience in any classroom.
