4 Measurement of Gummi Bears
This inquiry involves the measurement of gummi bears after they have been soaked in water overnight. I do not cover diffusion in my class, but I think it would be a useful lab to perform at the beginning of the year to help students create a hypothesis, take accurate measurements and learn various lab equipment.

5 Ice Cream Chemistry
This lab involving creating ice cream is more inquiry than I have done previously when making ice cream. It requires a great deal of rock salt. I second the suggestion that to make it easier to use milk and vanilla instead. I even use imitation vanilla to make it even cheaper.

5 Chemistry at Halloween
This lab has several great activities to use in the chemistry unit. Does not have to be a "Halloween" lab can be used at any time of the year as we do not learn chemistry until after the winter break. All of the materials are easy to pick up at a relatively low cost. It focuses on physical/chemical changes and properties of objects thru two labs and one demonstration.
