I definitely think students benefit from having a class journal. The journal can become a great tool for them to organize information and study from when needed. I also think having children write in their journal after every class will help them reflect on what they have just learned. We can motivate students to have a journal by telling them they can decorate it however they want to. This can ...

I love this idea. I think visual students will benefit from this the most.

I love the idea of a garden to teach children about science. One of the things that I will never forget about my science class in elementary school was when we learned about metamorphosis with a real life caterpillar in our classroom. Every day I would stare at it waiting for it to become a butterfly. The day that it became a butterfly our teacher took us outside so we could let it free. It was a...

5 Very Useful, Informative Collection
I have chosen this collection because it talks about the weather which is part of the topic I will be teaching my students. I enjoyed this collection very much because it has a variety of resources useful for a science elementary classroom. The journal article, "This land is your land," is one of my favorites because it provides us with examples to show students how important it is to take care of the soil left in the planet. It describes an activity using an apple where the students will be shown just about how much soil is left to grow food for all humans on earth. There is even an inquiry lesson that allows students to explore some of the causes of soil erosion. Comments such as, "we didn't use the sand because we knew it would easily wash away," shows an understanding by the students of the topic. I also really liked the fact that in the journal article, “Explaining Glaciers Accurately,” we can see the awesome contribution of four teachers and geologists to come up with ways to teach students about the importance of glaciers and the effect on temperature throughout the planet. Conclusively, I have added this collection to my personal library because I am sure it would be beneficial to have when teaching my students about the weather, and the causes of erosion.
