I'm 48 years old and I'm making a late career change. I am in my first year of teacher training. My goal is to become a highly skilled, inquiry based science teacher. I have a wife and five year old daughter who are ready for Daddy to finish his degree and get a "real job".

I completely agree with Sylvia about the importance of teaching expectations. Labs are inherently dangerous places: fire,acids/bases, solvents, glass, liquid nitrogen, etc. Lab is the one place where the teacher must have absolute compliance. I would spend as much time as possible teaching and re-teaching lab safety expectations. I would dry-run everything in the classroom and make sure that every...
