Thanks everyone for your feedback and input. I was thinking of other, more inquiry-based ways to explore the properties of styrofoam and acetone. The demonstration could be done at the end of a unit on polymers, environmental science, or even chemistry. Here is the idea I was thinking: how about a long-term, class-directed experiment that explores the differences between recyclable materials a...

I recently shadowed an employee of the Maryland Science Center as part of a Science Methods course. 5 Solar System in the Hallway
I just recently did the activity described in the article in a solar system workshop. The activity was a fantastic way to demonstrate just how large the solar system is and the relative distance of the planets. Even as an adult, the activity put the size of the solar system into perspective for me. This article describes the activity perfectly. It is a great cooperative, hands-on, visual learning activity.

5 An excellent resource!
I thought his SciPack would be a fantastic way for me to brush up on my knowledge of the solar system. What I didn't expect was how much new material I would learn from one resource. The SciPack is structured in a way that you are taking in loads of information without being overwhelmed. I recommend doing the SciPack over the course of a few days and NOT all in one sitting, however. It is quite a long resource, especially if you are reading everything and doing all the activities throughout.
