Angela, Glad you liked the ET idea. Please keep us updated on how that worked out in the classroom. I'd love to know how the students responded to the movie and what they came up with about different life forms and if the lesson was a success! :)

Angela, I think it's a great idea to incorporate movies/tv shows into the classroom. It's a way to relate to students and that seems hard to do nowadays. I know that the movie Wall-E is one that talks about the importance of recycling as well as some of the issues with global warming plus it's Disney so that should get students interested no matter what age group. This may be a bit of a stretch...

Over this past week I taught my first science lesson to my second graders in my internship. The lesson was based around soil and the children needed to model a landfill. The way I designed the lesson was I collected lunch items which would be used in the soil, as well as paper clips, and plastic bottles. This was designed to show the students what would decompose in the soil and what would still b...

5 Helpful in the classroom
I thought this was a great resource for teachers. I like how this SciGuide is setup. It makes it easy to find topics teachers are looking to cover in the classroom. It provides just enough information on different topics to give teachers more background but not too much information so that it becomes overwhelming. There are lesson plans in each section that give you plenty of resources to use in the classroom. I think it's a great tool for using in a classroom that is discussing the solar system. I would recommend any teacher to add this to their library immediately.

3 Overall Some Useful Information
This chapter does give some informative information on how to teach all the different grade levels in elementary school. However, I think it would have been more useful for some more in depth lesson plans. I did like some of the options for assessments in the chapter though. I would love to use them with some of my students. The one downside is that the lessons are brief and may require teachers to research a little more on how they want to do the lesson. Overall this resource is good for information on science standards for elementary school teachers but I would have liked to see a little more details on the lessons provided.
