Dr. Eric Lander, Founding Director, Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard
NSTA is excited to pilot this collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in delivering a free open course in biology that will help teachers refresh their subject matter knowledge. The MIT course will focus on specific science content and will be hosted by MIT professor Eric Lander, who was one of the leaders of the Human Genome Project.
The NSTA support component for this MITx course will provide targeted resources focused on helping educators understand the pedagogical teaching implications related to MIT’s subject matter. This pedagogical component will also discuss promising strategies to facilitate student understanding of challenging biological science phenomenon, including student pre-conceptions.
NSTA is supporting this MIT intro to biology open course by providing:
- Three pedagogical-focused web seminars by NSTA press authors with MIT professors
- Digital resources for teaching the concepts to your students
- Moderated community discussion forum on biological pedagogy
- An optional pedagogical certificate to showcase your knowledge via this open course
