Description

Would you like to get your students involved in an authentic search for extraterrestrial intelligence? The SETI@home project is an ongoing science experiment harnessing the power of computers via the internet. The project is a great inspirational tool that involves students in the thrill of science and motivates them to learn more about the astronomy, mathematics, physics, biology, and technology involved in the search for intelligent life in the universe.

Ideas For Use

Lesson plans and curriculum materials dealing with the question of life in the universe have been developed by the SETI Institute with sponsorship from the National Science Foundation and NASA (see "On the web," p. 61).

Students help find Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence

  I'm thrilled that I found this article! This article describes the SETI at home project in which the SETI program uses computers around the world to help find intelligent life in the universe. This program is an excellent way to get students involved in the search for ETI. Additionally, this could be used as a launching point for a study in astrobiology. I have just downloaded the software to get involved with this program, and I cannot wait to try it out!

Times Are Changing -- Is This Just History?

  Learning all about the SETI project is presented in this article. Reading this article tells you about the history of the project, what these scientists are doing and how you can get you and your students involved in it. You learn about screensaver data graphics as well. Lots of online resources are provided but I think this article would be more useful to an astronomy class in high school. The only drawback to this article is that due to lack of funding this project will be shut down and it is unknown what will be the residual information about the project when this occurs. In short this article written in 2006 might just be history.
