HOW ARE WEB PAGES EVALUATED?

Design

Design (overall): In addition to being educational, the materials are visually appealing and/or entertaining. Visual effects enhance the web page, rather than distract from the content, or substitute for content. Visual effects motivate and encourage its use.

Participants rate the web page for the following criteria:

Poor Fair Good

i. Layout of page has no structure or organization with respect to sections and headers. Text is not broken into paragraphs and sections. If graphs, charts, or images are present on the page, they are not labeled and do not include color keys and legends where appropriate.

i. Layout of page provides structure
and organization incorporating headings or sections to create some hierarchy. Text is broken into paragraphs and sections. If graphs, charts, or images are present on the page, they are clearly labeled and include color keys/legends where appropriate.

i. Page layout incorporates a hierarchy that closely follows meaning; headings and styles are consistent throughout page. Graphics support conceptual understanding of page's intent and are not superfluous, thus increasing download time. If graphs, charts, or images are present on the page, they are clearly labeled, including color keys and legends where appropriate. Navigation to other parts of site is available. Location of page within larger site is easily identified (site map link, bread crumb trail).
