NAVIGATION AND SITE STRUCTURE

2. Navigating the SciGuides to Identify Resources:

There are three main ways in which a user can locate resources of particular interest within a SciGuide.

First, from the SciGuide Overview there is a Navigation menu on the right of the screen. In this area the Themes of the SciGuide are listed with a short description of the concepts addressed in that particular theme.

When a theme is selected you will go to a Theme Overview page. This page looks much like the Guide Overview page, but it details the resources contained in that particular theme and the associated Keyword.

A second way to navigate through the structure of a SciGuide is the Concept Map. To access the concept map for a SciGuide click on the Concept map link on the Guide Overview screen. In this view you are able to view all of the Themes and Keyword of a SciGuide and link directly to the associated Lesson Plans, Vignettes, and Student Work Samples for a particular Theme.

When a keyword is selected from either the Theme Overview page or the Concept map, all the pages associated with that keyword are displayed. Shown below is an example of the sites and descriptions returned when the "Animal Species" Keyword was selected from the Organisms

A third way to navigate for resources is to do a site-wide search using the search box at the top of the page.

Regardless of how you select a keyword or content standard, you will be presented with a screen listing all the web pages that match your search. Each page is listed by title and URL. Click the URL or the "GO" button to open that page in a new window. Close the window at any time to return to your resource list.
