NAVIGATION AND SITE STRUCTURE

4. Deciding the Appropriateness of a Particular Resource Text

After identifying links from a keyword or a content standard, you will see the screen listing all resources matching your criteria. There are several pieces of information provided to you that will assist in determining the appropriateness of this page for your use.

Sites are categorized as being appropriate for either K-4, 5-8 or 9-12 audiences. Since this criterion was included in your search when you chose a particular SciGuide, you should be viewing only sites at the appropriate grade levels.

Each site has been reviewed by a trained cadre of science teachers using a set of eight rigorous assessment rubrics. See the "Alignment to Science Standards" and "How are Web pages evaluated for the Guides" under "About the Guides" for more details on this process. The "View all reviews for this site" link below each page's URL will display the assessment results from these reviewers for all eight rubrics.

Each site has been correlated to the National Science Education Standards. For more information on this process, visit the "Alignment to Science Standards" and "How are web pages evaluated for the Guides" under "About the Guides". To view the standards correlation for an individual Web resource, click the "Site/Standard Correlation" link to the right of each page listing.

As with any resource, you will ultimately be the best judge of what works best for you and your classroom. We hope that this SciGuide will assist you in your search for quality instructional resources.
