Gravity and Orbits
What’s holding you down? Join us for the new NSTA Online Short Course: Gravity
and Orbits and find out! This short course will explore concepts related to Earth’s
universal gravitation and how gravity affects the universe around us. Learn about
variables that influence the amount of gravitational force and how gravity governs
the motion of the solar system. During this course, particular emphasis will be
given to NASA resources you can use with your students and inquiry based instruction
models. This is the perfect course for science teachers interested in learning more
about the topic or for those who would like a refresher course. Two graded, graduate level credits will be available for an additional fee.

assessment and print a certificate from NSTA demonstrating their understanding and
proficiency of the content.
- Educators are encouraged to seek approval in advance from their district for continuing
education credits that may be ascribed for participating in this online short course.
I learned a lot in this class – tonight for instance, I learned about precession, about how the forces of inertia/momentum and gravity interact, and I better understand Kepler’s laws. This helps my understanding of gravity and orbits and should make it more effective when responding to student questions. Also, I’ve gotten a better idea about what sources to use in an inquiry setting. - Mark Goldsmith, middle school teacher, Connecticut
