Force and Motion: Overview and Schedule
The NSTA Online Short Course: Force and Motion covers
the concepts of speed, velocity, acceleration, force, mass, weight, and Newton's
Laws of Motion and their applications. See the Course Syllabus.
The course is based on the NSTA Press publication Force and Motion: Stop Faking
It! Finally Understanding Science So You Can Teach It written by Dr. William
Robertson. The course is targeted to educators that teach students in grades 3-9.
Participants meet live online at a web session with the presenters on five weeknights, from 8:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. Eastern time.
At each live web session the course instructor along with NSTA staff will guide
participants through easy- to- understand explanations and facilitate discussions
that will enhance participant knowledge of common physical science concepts.
The presenters also share ideas for activities that can be done using commonly found
materials. In addition, participants contribute to asynchronous weekly discussions,
and complete suggested reading assignments from NSTA’s Force and Motion SciPack
and SciGuide, the Force and Motion book, and two selected journal articles.
Participants should plan to spend approximately 25-35 hours on this online course
including the time spent attending the live web sessions.
