Online Short Course: The Solar System. With a focus on the formation
of the solar system and its bodies, this course will introduce inquiry based instruction
models and NASA resources to use with students. This is the perfect course for science
teachers interested in learning more about the topic or for those who would like
to refresh their knowledge. Two graded, graduate-level credits are available for
an additional fee.
Registration
In order to accommodate busy summer schedules, the five live meetings of the course
will be condensed to three weeks' time. The course will be offered on Monday and
Wednesday nights from 8:30p.m.-10:00p.m. Eastern Time, beginning June 11, 2012.

This introductory price includes access to the five live meetings and archives, the instructor’s PowerPoint presentations, a discussion forum, and the required course materials: SciPack, Journal Articles, and online NASA resources.
- At the end of the course, all participants will have the opportunity to pass a final assessment and print a certificate from NSTA demonstrating their understanding and proficiency of the content.
- Educators are encouraged to seek approval in advance from their district for continuing education credits that may be ascribed for participating in this online short course.
Course Details
The presenters will guide participants through easy-to-understand explanations and facilitate discussions that will enhance teacher knowledge of common physical science concepts. In addition, participants will contribute to asynchronous weekly discussions and complete suggested reading assignments from NSTA's Solar System SciPack, journal articles, and online NASA resources.
Participants should plan to spend between 40-45 hours on this online course, including time spent attending live Web sessions. This Online Short Course is designed for educators of grades 3-9.
