Why is left right and right left in the mirror? Baffled by the basics of reflection and refraction? Wondering just how the eye works? If you have trouble teaching concepts about light that you don’t fully grasp yourself, the new NSTA Online Short Course: Light will help. The course addresses the topics that science teachers and parents need to know to teach about light with confidence. This is the perfect course for science teachers interested in learning more about the topic or for those who would like a refresher course.


Participants of the course meet online with the presenters on five Wednesdays, from 8:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. ET, begining on February 3, 2010. The course will take place on the following dates: 2/3, 2/10, 2/17, 2/24, and March 3, 2010.

This introductory price includes access to the five live meetings and archives, the instructor’s PowerPoint presentations, a discussion forum, and the required course materials: SciPack, SciGuide, 1 Journal Article, 1 Book Chapter and Light: Stop Faking It! book. Registration is now open!

  • At the end of the course, all participants will have the opportunity to pass a final assessment and print a certificate from NSTA demonstrating their understanding and proficiency of the content.


  • Educators are encouraged to seek approval in advance from their district for continuing education credits that may be ascribed for participating in this online short course.


  • This course provides a traditional letter grade for those desiring to take the course for credit through the University of Idaho. All participants will receive a certificate of completion in the ‘My Transcript’ area of their NSTA Learning Center.
