Coral Ecosystems |
This symposium provided participants the opportunity to interact with a National
Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) scientist and several communication
and education specialists. Teachers learned about the biology, feeding habits, and
shapes of coral reefs. They also learned about the tools scientists use to monitor
the health of corals to assist in their preservation. Three activities were modeled,
one about the biology of corals, one about their shapes and survival to wave action,
and one about using satellite data to monitor the health of coral ecosystems. Participating
teachers received educational materials from NOAA.
