Uncovering Student Ideas in Science |
This symposium allowed participants the opportunity to meet the authors of the NSTA
Press publication Uncovering Student Ideas in Science, Page Keeley, Francis Eberle,
and Lynn Farrin. Using examples from their book and their research experiences in
the areas of how people learn, the presenters engaged the audience in discussions
about formative assessment probes and how these can be used in the classroom. Participants
were able to look over students’ sample work and shared ideas with the larger group
on how assess students’ prior knowledge and strategies of how to eliminate these
misconceptions. All participants received a copy of the book Uncovering Student
Ideas in Science.
