How do I Promote Student Discourse?
Dr. Katherine L. McNeill is an Associate Professor of science education at Boston College. A former middle school science teacher, she received her doctorate in science education from the University of Michigan. Her research focuses on how to support students with diverse backgrounds in engaging in science practices, with a particular focus on explanation and argumentation. Through the generous funding of the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the Carnegie Corporation of NY, she has worked on a number of projects focused on the design of curriculum, assessments and other resources to support students, teachers, and instructional leaders in science practices.
Eric Meuse is a Science teacher in the Boston Public Schools. Throughout his time teaching in Boston, he has led district wide professional development supporting teachers in implementing Science curriculum. He also has taught for the Boston Teacher Residency for the past three years supporting pre-service teachers to prepare them to teach Science in the classroom. Eric is currently working with Boston teacher leaders to transition Boston into the states newly implemented Science standards.
