Aligning ExploraVision with the National Science Education
Standards and the NRC Framework for K-12 Science Education
|
This web seminar took place on October 10, 2012 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern
Time. The presenters were Eric Crossley, Director of Science Education Competitions
at NSTA, and Courtney Georginn, a teacher at West Grove Elementary in San Diego,
California. In this program, the presenters provided an overview of ExploraVision
and discussed opportunities for connecting the competition to the National Science
Education Standards and the NRC Framework for K-12 Science Education.
The PowerPoint, related resources from the NSTA Learning Center, and web links from
the presentation are now contained in the above resource collection. Clicking on
the collection link will place it in your Learning Center, My Library,
neatly organized under the My Resource Collections tab.
This was the second program in a series of web seminars focused on the ExploraVision
competition. During the presentation, Mr. Crossley introduced participants to the
history and components of the competition, then shared information about the prizes
that teams can potentially win. Ms. Georginn talked about ways that teachers can
link students’ work on the ExploraVision competition to specific science standards.
She also shared strategies for assisting and motivating students based on her own
experience as an ExploraVision coach. Web seminar participants then had a chance
to check out the ExploraVision website.
Seminar participants received one of the NSTA SciGuides. A certificate
of attendance was deposited into participants' My PD Record and Certificates
area in the NSTA Learning Center for completing the evaluation form at the end of
the program.
Here are some comments provided by the participants at the end of the web seminar:
- “Excellent, I was looking for a challenge to give my students.”
- “I liked this seminar, it is valuable information that I will share with my
peers.”
- “I am definitely signing up my students and we are doing this as a class.”
Thanks to the participants and the presenter for the learning opportunity, the interactions,
and a job well done!
