What’s New in Planetary Science: A Tour of Recent Discoveries
in Our Solar System and Beyond
|
This web seminar took place on December 3, 2012, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time. The presenter was Dr. Sarah Noble, Research Scientist at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. In this program, Dr. Noble shared NASA’s recent research on the moon and Earth’s neighboring planets, as well as new discoveries outside our solar system.
The PowerPoint, related resources from the NSTA Learning Center, and web links from
the presentation are now contained in the above resource collection. Clicking on
the collection link will place it in your Learning Center, My Library,
neatly organized under the My Resource Collections tab.
In this seminar Dr. Noble provided an overview of NASA’s recent explorations of our solar system and beyond. Beginning with Mercury and ranging to Pluto, she talked about the data gathered in recent years on Earth’s planetary neighbors. Participants viewed images collected by remotely controlled spacecraft and telescopes. They also checked their knowledge of planetary research by responding to interactive quiz questions. Dr. Noble concluded the presentation by sharing details about NASA’s work to find planets around other suns.
Seminar participants received an NSTA SciGuide. A certificate
of attendance was deposited into participants' My PD Record and Certificates
area in the NSTA Learning Center for completing the evaluation form at the end of
the program.
Here are some comments provided by the participants at the end of the Web Seminar:
- “This was a wonderful review and update of the planetary missions.”
- “It was very interesting to see all that NASA is still doing. Just because the Shuttle Program is done certainly doesn't mean that NASA is done! My students will be so interested!”
- “This was excellent. The presenter was informative AND interesting to listen to. Her sense of humor in addition to her understanding of the topic made this a very wonderful time.”
Thanks to the participants and the presenter for the learning opportunity, the interactions,
and a job well done!
