Flavio Mendez
Flavio Mendez is the NSTA Learning Center Senior Director at the National Science
Teachers Association. Mr. Mendez has over fifteen years of experience in formal
and informal outreach and education activities, as Education Coordinator for the
Hubble Space Telescope education program, and as Director of two exhibits and professional
development programs for K-12 educators at the Maryland Science Center in Baltimore,
Maryland.
At NSTA Mr. Mendez is responsible for the management of the Learning Center's state
and district partnerships and the help desk. He oversees the implementation of the
Center's resources, i.e., SciPacks, SciGuides, Web Seminars, Podcasts, Short Courses,
etc. and the development of the PD tools like My PD Plan & Portfolio, My
Library, My Calendar, My Transcript, etc. Mr. Mendez
also teaches courses in astronomy to pre- and in-service teachers at the University
of Maryland Baltimore County. He is one of NASA's JPL Solar System Educators.
Leisa Clark
Leisa Clark is Producer/Director of eLearning Production. Ms. Clark has more than
30 years of experience in science education. Prior to joining NSTA, Ms. Clark was
a school administrator. She taught middle and high school science in New York City,
Philadelphia, and McLean (VA).During her tenures, she mentored student teachers,
headed several committees, and was awarded a master teachership. Ms. Clark was an
Instructional Designer and then the Education Manager at Challenger Center for Space
Science Education, where she directed the development and production of Challenger
Center’s curriculum and had the opportunity to be the national education spokesperson
for Space Day. She has also written more than fifty issues of Science Weekly. In
her various positions Ms. Clark has presented professional development workshops
(at schools, at national conferences, and via synchronous webcasts), overseen national
education roundtable discussions, chaired education committees, assessed classroom
teaching, and been on the coordinating board for a national science education conference.
In her current position at NSTA, Ms. Clark oversees the production of the SciPacks,
Science Objects, and SciGuides.
