Creating and Sharing Collections in the Learning Center

This Web Seminar took place on April 4, 2012 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time. The presenter was Flavio Mendez, Senior Director, NSTA Learning Center. In this Seminar, Mr. Mendez reviewed the wealth of resources available in the Learning Center, then showed participants how to gather and use these resources by organizing them into collections.

The PowerPoint and related resources from the NSTA Learning Center are now contained in the above resource collection. Clicking on the collection link will place it in your Learning Center, My Library, neatly organized under the My Resource Collections tab.

In this presentation, Mr. Mendez talked about the different functions of the My Library tool, including adding and recommending NSTA resources, uploading personal resources, creating personalized collections, and sharing those collections with groups or making them public. During the program, participants had the opportunity to practice using these functions by visiting the Learning Center and sharing their feedback via the web seminar chat.

Seventy-eight (78) participants were present at the live Web Seminar in addition to the presenter and NSTA staff. Participating educators represented the states of Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. In addition, two participants joined the program from locations outside of the United States: Germany and Turkey.

Seminar participants received a one year subscription to the NSTA SciPack of their choice. A certificate of attendance was deposited into participants My PD Record and Certificate area in the NSTA Learning Center for completing the evaluation form at the end of the program.

Here are some comments provided by the participants at the end of the Web Seminar:

  • “This is like one-stop-shopping...sharing...collaborating...networking, etc. And it's free...easy to use...relevant... friendly... I like the idea of having efficient ‘cloud space.’”
  • “I am a tech junkie, who is always looking for an easier way to find and organize information. My search for the ultimate resource management tool has now ended!”
  • “This seminar has introduced me to a world of resources I didn't know were available. I particularly like the interactive nature of the site, as I really have no-one to confer with at my school.””
  • “Needed help and got it! I will use Learning Center more!”

Thanks to the participants and the presenters for the learning opportunity, the interactions, and a job well done!
