Using the Learning Center as Your
e-Textbook with Preservice Teachers
This web seminar took place on June 27, 2013, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. eastern
daylight time. The presenter was Flavio Mendez,
Senior Director of the NSTA Learning Center. A panel of university professors included
Susan M. Blunck, from University of Maryland,
Baltimore County; Michael R.L. Odell, of University
of Texas-Tyler, and Kate Baird of Indiana University
Purdue University Columbus.

the presentation are now contained in the above resource collection. Clicking on

neatly organized under the My Resource Collections tab.
Mr. Mendez began the presentation by giving an overview of the NSTA Learning Center
and sharing examples of the Learning Center’s resources, including interactive content
modules called Science Objects. He then described how the Learning Center can be
used as an e-Textbook at the college and university level. He shared examples of
successful application in preservice teacher classrooms then invited the panelists
to share their own experiences using the Learning Center with their students. The
panelists also answered questions from the audience.
Seminar participants received an NSTA SciPack. A certificate of attendance
was deposited into participants' My PD Record and Certificates area in
the NSTA Learning Center for completing the evaluation form at the end of the program.
