Dawn Grafe has guided and managed the public use program for six National Wildlife Refuges along the coast of Oregon for more than ten years. Her work involves K-12 marine education, volunteer coordination, natural resource interpretation, community outreach and anything else that involves the public. In partnership with state and Federal agencies, non-profit conservation organizations and others she has developed an extensive interpretation and Environmental Education Program with more than 2,000 students receiving hands-on learning annually.

Dawn also worked as a field biologist in North Carolina, Florida and California. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Wildlife Ecology from the University of Florida and a Master of Science degree in Wildlife Biology from Oregon State University. Dawn has an affinity for anything with feathers and is passionate about sharing this affinity for birds with people of all ages.

Thomas J. Gaskill
Thomas J. Gaskill Education Program Coordinator
South Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve

Tom Gaskill has directed the development and implementation of the educational programs and facilities at the 5,000 acre South Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve since 1994. He has worked successfully with the Reserve’s federal partner, NOAA, the Oregon Department of State Lands, and a variety of community and staff collaborators to establish innovative educational approaches. Mr. Gaskill has significant experience working with a variety of professional science educators in the development and implementation of curriculum and field-based educational experiences.

Most recently, he has worked with various partner institutions to develop the Oregon Coast Education Program, an effort to train teachers and expand ocean and coastal literacy in schools throughout Oregon. His favorite work involves providing and participating in outstanding field experiences for students and teachers along the shores and waterways of the estuary!
