This Web Seminar took place on January 21, 2009, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Presenting was Flavio Mendez, Senior Director of the NSTA Learning Center. Mr. Mendez talked about the NSTA Learning Center, its thousands of resources, and professional development tools with an emphasis on classroom teachers K-12.
The presenter gave an overview of the NSTA Learning Center, focusing on how the resources could be used to enhance teacher’s professional development. The site has over 2,900 resources available. Mendez described some of the featured products, including Science Objects, SciPacks, SciGuides, journal articles, and e-Book chapters. He also spent some time talking about how to use the professional development tools available, such as “My Library” and “My PD Plan & Portfolio” and how these can benefit science educators.
Twenty-one (21) participants were present at the live Web Seminar in addition to the presenter and NSTA staff. Participating educators represented the states of Florida,
Georgia, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, Texas, Wisconsin, Virginia, and another from Australia. Seminar participants received a one year subscription to one of NSTA’s SciGuide for completing the evaluation form at the end of the program.
