NOAA Climate Data in the Classroom

NSTA is partnering with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to present an exciting symposium for educators, grades 6-12, on the topic of climate data. This blended professional development opportunity includes a face-to-face symposium at the NSTA National Conference on Science Education in San Antonio, Texas, including six pre-sessions and follow-up sessions. Two public NSTA web seminars give educators the opportunity to extend their learning after the in-person event.

Stipend Opportunity ($47)

NOAA is pleased to offset the registration costs for participants, making this symposium free for registered educators. The first 50 participants who register will receive a stipend covering the advanced registration cost of $47

Program Overview

During this half-day symposium, NOAA scientists and education specialists will discuss how NOAA collects, manages, and analyzes data about climate and how educators can access and use this data in the classroom. Participants will learn about websites and resources that utilize climate data, including drought, sea surface temperature, coastal water quality, and ocean acidification. In addition, the symposium will highlight impacts of coastal changes on habitats and ocean chemistry impacts on coral communities.
