Scientists and education specialists from the Food and Drug Administration, (FDA), presented two Web Seminars on the topics of salt and cosmetics. The first seminar presented on Wednesday, April 9, 2008 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Eastern focused on salt, how it is found and processed and how it affects our health. The presenter Richard Bonnette, Consumer Safety Officer with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in the Division of Biotechnology and GRAS Notice Review, presented many interesting facts about salt and its history. Beth Meyers was the presenter for the Web Seminar on cosmetics. It took place on Tuesday, May 6, 2008 from 6:30 -8:00 pm Eastern. Beth focused on cosmetic safety, the history of cosmetic safety in the United States, how cosmetic safety is regulated and some of the issues the FDA has undertaken. Beth answered a lot of questions on what is prohibited in cosmetics and what is permissible. These seminars are designed for educators of grades 5-8.

Each web seminar is a unique, stand-alone, program. Archives of these web seminars and the presenters’ PowerPoint presentations will be available on this web page. Learn more about the features of the Web Seminar and read answers to frequently asked questions from participants.
