This Web Seminar, sponsored by the NASA, took place on May 15, 2008, from 6:30 p.m.
to 8:00 p.m., Eastern Time. Presenting from NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Texas
were
Jaqueline Cortez,
Business Specialist and Education and Outreach Coordinator for the 21st Century
Explorer Project,
Dr. Karen Pickering,
Lead for the Water Recovery Systems Element of the Exploration Life Support Project,
and
Lisa Neasbitt,
Educator Lead for the NASA 21st Century Explorer Project. The presenters talked
about recycling water in space.
This web seminar was the second of two related to the NASA Symposium: 21st Century
Explorer – Today’s Knowledge for Tomorrow’s Explorer that took place at the NSTA
National Conference on Science Education in Boston, Massachusetts. The presenters
talked about recycling water in space. They also did an overview of the 21st Century
Explorer Educational Package titled: Cleaning Water. The Web seminar was designed
for educators of grades 3-5.
Twenty-four (24) participants were present at the live Web Seminar in addition to the presenter and NSTA staff. Participating educators represented the states of Alabama, Alaska, California, Florida, Kansas, Maine, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, and Wyoming. One participant attended the program from India and another from the United Arab Emirates (Dubai). Seminar participants received a one year subscription to one of NSTA’s SciGuide for completing the evaluation form at the end of the program.
