Dr. Karen Flammer
Dr. Karen Flammer is a Research Physicist at UCSD. She obtained her Ph.D. in Space
Physics from UCSD in 1988. Since 1995, Karen has devoted her career to educational
outreach projects at UCSD. She directs ISS-EarthKAM, a NASA funded educational program
that teaches middle school students how to photograph the Earth from space using
a digital camera onboard the International Space Station. Karen coordinates hundreds
of middle schools across the country and develops curriculum supporting middle school
teachers and their students. As Senior Vice President, Karen assists in educational
outreach and gives workshops for parents at Sally Ride Science (SRS) Festivals.
Julie Miller
Julie Miller has taught in the Olathe District Schools located within the Kansas
City area, for twenty years. Currently she serves as a Science Instructional Resource
Teacher/Coach. She is Nationally Board Certified in Early Adolescence Science. In
addition to her District responsibilities, Julie serves as an adjunct professor
at Ottawa University, teaching an elementary math course to prospective teachers.
She also authors online science courses for the ParaEducator Learning Network.
Julie has received the following honors: Honeywell Scholarship to the Space Academy
for Educators at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama, Excellence
in Earth Science Teaching Award for Kansas, Presidential Award for Excellence in
Mathematics Teaching, and Kansas Medical Society and KATM Math Award. She also served
as the educator facilitator for the NASA Explorer Schools at Dryden Flight Research
Center. Professional memberships include the National Science Teachers Association,
Kansas Association for Teachers of Science, Kansas Earth Science Teachers Association,
Kansas Exemplary Educators Network, and the National Education Association.
Brenda Wilson
Brenda Wilson has worked with Sally Ride Science (SRS) since its inception and now
serves as Vice President of Content and Out-of-School Programs. She works with writers
to create books and publications, afterschool programs and curriculum, websites,
and workshops. Ms. Wilson previously was the Executive Producer of SpaceKids and held writer/producer
positions at Disney, Scholastic, and TV411. She also wrote and produced science
videos and curriculum, beginning in 1992 with an interactive series of science mysteries
that was broadcast via satellite directly into classrooms. Ms. Wilson is also an
award-winning writer and producer of After School specials for CBS and ABC.
