Mapping the Moon: Simulating LOLA in the Classroom |
Dr. Susan Hoban
Susan Hoban received her Ph.D. in astronomy from the University of Maryland in 1989.
Dr. Hoban conducted research in cometary science at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center,
first as a National Research Council fellow, then as part of USRA Visiting Scientist
Program from 1989 to 1993. In 1993, she began working in the field of information
systems for science and education. In 1996, Dr. Hoban received the NASA Special
Service Award for her work on web-based educational outreach. Dr. Hoban served as
the Acting Associate Director (1998) and subsequently Director (1999–2000) of the
USRA Center of Excellence in Space Data and Information Science. Dr. Hoban is currently
a Senior Research Scientist at the University of Maryland Baltimore County's Goddard
Earth Science and Technology (GEST) Center, located at NASA Goddard Space Flight
Center, in Greenbelt, MD. Dr. Hoban is particularly interested in using advanced
information technologies to enhance STEM education.
Don Higdon
Don Higdon is a Senior Instructional Designer at the University of Maryland, Baltimore
County’s Goddard Earth Science and Technology Center. Before joining the Center,
he taught physics and chemistry in public schools in Maryland and Virginia. Over
the last fifteen years, he has been actively involved in physics education research,
associated with Maryland Virtual High School and the Arizona State University physics
modeling program. He has recently become involved with engineering education, teaching
the Project Lead the Way “Aerospace Engineering” class. Higdon’s primary area of
expertise is computer-interfaced technology.
Dr. Marci Delaney
Dr. Marcianna P. Delaney is an oceanographer turned science education specialist.
She currently is the project lead of three NASA Education projects: the NASA Exploring
Challenges, the NASA Goddard arm of the Digital Learning Network and the eEducation
Product Showcase Series. Dr. Delaney earned her B.S. in Marine Biology from the
University of North Carolina at Wilmington. She then earned both her M.Sc. and Ph.D.
in Biological Oceanography at Memorial University of Newfoundland. Dr. Delaney has
taught several undergraduate level courses in the field of biology, but now focuses
her time on instructing teachers the best methods of utilizing the scientific method
in their classrooms. She has presented at numerous scientific and educational conferences
to communicate scientific concepts to the educational community. Prior to her faculty
assignment at UMBC, Dr. Delaney was the logistical coordinator for three student
internship programs and a short-term visiting scientist program located at NASA
GSFC. She now divides her time managing her three current projects as well as take
part in the instruction of teacher professional development workshops.
Brittany Hamolia
Brittany Hamolia is an Elementary Educator who is now working at NASA Goddard Space
Flight Center as an Education Specialist. She received her degrees in Political
Science and Speech Communication from the University of Illinois and began teaching
in the Baltimore City Public School System in 2003. Currently as a member of Goddard’s
Digital Learning Network team, she helps to write content and deliver educational
lessons on various STEM topics.
