Olaf Jorgenson
Olaf Jorgenson is former director of K-12 science, social sciences, and world languages
in the Mesa (Arizona) Unified School District. Now headmaster of Hawaii Preparatory
Academy, he has served as a teacher and administrator in U.S. and international
schools, mostly at the middle and junior high levels. Jorgenson was president-elect
of the Association of Science Materials Centers and a faculty member with the National
Science Resources Center's Leadership Assistance for Science Education Reform (LASER)
strategic planning institute, with a focus on middle school science issues. He earned
his EdD in educational leadership from Arizona State University.
Jackie Cleveland
Recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science Teaching, Jackie Cleveland
is a K-6 science specialist in Mesa, where she has also served as a basic skills
specialist. During her 30-year career, she has been president of the Arizona Science
Teachers Association and was actively involved in revising the state's science standards,
approved in spring 2004. Cleveland teaches science methods courses for Arizona State
and Northern Arizona universities and the University of Phoenix. Her bachelor's
and master's degrees in education are from Arizona State.
Rick Vanosdall
Rick Vanosdall is a Research Director at the Center of Excellence for Research and
Policy at Tennessee State University. Previously he was Associate Director of the
Arizona K-12 Center at Northern Arizona University, the science specialist for Mesa
(Arizona) Unified School's 22 junior and senior high schools and science specialist
for the district's National Science Foundation Local Systemic Change Grant for enhancing
teacher performance in K-8 math, science, and technology. He has a bachelor's degree
in natural resource and environmental education from Michigan State University and
master's and doctoral degrees in educational supervision and administration from
Arizona State University.
