Presenters:
William S. Carlsen
Trained in ecosystem science, engineering, and education, William S. Carlsen has
been helping schools engage in watershed research for more than a decade. A former
high school science teacher, he is a professor of science education at Penn State
University. Carlsen served as a member of the Environmental Inquiry Team for the
earlier NSTA Press Cornell Scientific Inquiry series books. He earned a bachelor's
degree in biology from Dartmouth College and a PhD in curriculum and teacher education
from Stanford University.

Nancy M. Trautmann
Nancy M. Trautmann is director of Cornell University's Environmental Inquiry program,
which aims to make environmental science relevant and engaging for students. With
fellow team members, she has developed award-winning educational web sites, books,
and videos related to composting science, environmental toxicology, water quality,
and ecology. Trautmann has a bachelor's degree in environmental sciences from Hampshire
College and a master's in aquatic science from Cornell, where she is a PhD candidate
in computer- supported collaborative learning.
