NSTA Web Seminars:

National Science Teachers Association How to Maximize Your NSTA Conference Experience
All web seminar participants use online tools that allow them to mark-up presenter's slides or share desktop applications in addition to engaging in chat with others online and answering poll questions

This Web Seminar took place on October 8, 2008, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Eastern Time. The presenters were Flavio Mendez, Senior Director of the NSTA Learning Center and Paul Tingler, Project Director for the NSTA New Science Teacher Academy. The Web Seminar focused on information and strategies teachers can use to maximize their experience at NSTA conferences.

In this seminar participants learned information about the NSTA Conferences taking place in Charlotte, Portland, and Cincinnati in 2008. Specifically, topics like the exhibit hall, different types of sessions, networking, and resources available at the conference, were discussed. The presenters also talked about tools participants can use before the conference to better prepare for the event, including the Conference Personal Scheduler. The Web seminar was designed for educators of grades K-12.

Nineteen (19) participants were present at the live Web Seminar in addition to the presenters and NSTA support staff. Participating educators represented the states of Florida, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Texas, and Virginia. Seminar participants received one of NSTA’s SciGuides for completing the evaluation form at the end of the program.

Here are some comments provided by the participants at the end of the Web Seminar:

  • "I enjoyed hearing about the content of the conferences to see which I may be able to attend."

  • "Learned about the Conference Personal Scheduler, met others in my state, learned about 1st timers session, etc."

  • "Because this is my first conference, having a Web Seminar was terrific, and knowing I could go online and use a personal scheduler was very helpful and informative."

  • "This (presentation) was very well organized. The technical support was outstanding. It was the best I have ever received."

Thanks to the participants and the presenters for the learning opportunity, the interactions, and a job well done!
