NASA/NSTA Symposium:

National Aeronautics and Space Administration
Discover the Universe – From Galileo to Today
Symposium participants show some of their work.

During this half-day Symposium, science and education experts from NASA lead discussions on key science concepts – Earth’s place in the universe; light, energy, and optics; and, models and evidence in science – as participants investigated how NASA’s space-based missions have extended the legacy of observation and discovery that Galileo Galilei initiated when he turned his telescope to the skies in 1609. Presenters shared information about resources and opportunities for teachers and students related to the International Year of Astronomy (IYA). The IYA is a world-wide celebration of the 400th anniversary of Galileo’s observations. For more information about the IYA visit: http://www.astronomy2009.org/.

This symposium was held at the NSTA Area Conference on Science Education in Cincinnati, OH. The program was designed for teachers of grades 5-12.
