Teaching Science with Food Safety
|
During this half-day Symposium, experts and educators from FDA explained how FDA
detects food-borne pathogens, how to culture bacteria found in food, and how FDA
investigates an outbreak of foodborne illnesses. FDA scientists and master teachers
lead participants in activities—some of which are laboratory based, inquiry oriented,
and hands-on—that they can use in their classrooms to enable students to experience
several of the National Science Education Standards, including those for Life Science
(Structure and Function in Living Systems), Science and Technology, and Science
in Personal Health and Social Perspectives. Each participant received a notebook
of teaching resources and a stipend of $60 from FDA.
