Book Cover

This web seminar took place on December 11, 2013 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. eastern standard time. The presenters were Jo Anne Vasquez of the Helios Education Foundation, Mariel Milano of Orange County Public Schools, and Cary Sneider of Portland State University.

Dr. Sneider began the presentation by describing the essential elements of a STEM lesson and defining literacy in each of the components of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math). Dr. Vasquez then talked about three approaches to integrated STEM-multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary, and transdisciplinary. She also discussed implications for implementing the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Ms. Milano provided an example of a STEM challenge for students and shared strategies for the classroom.
