GPS and Geodesy for Dummies: Do You Know Where You Are? |
During this half-day symposium, scientists and education specialists from the National
Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) guided participants through easy-to-understand
explanations about the global positioning system (GPS) and the science behind it,
known as geodesy. Participants learned about the history of geodesy (Eratosthenes)
and how the GPS modern technology is being used today in innumerable applications.
All participants received educational materials from NOAA. The program was designed
for teachers of grades 5-12.
This symposium was held at the NSTA National Conference on Science Education in
St. Louis, MO.
