The Fragile Ice

In the continuing celebration for the International Polar Year (IPY) two web seminars
were presented focusing on the role of ice in Earth's changing climate and its impact
on life. The presenters, Dr. Mary Albert is a senior research engineer at the U.S.
Army ERDC Cold Regions Research and Engineering Lab in Hanover, New Hampshire and
Mark McCaffrey is associate scientist and science communications specialist at the
Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES), University
of Colorado, Boulder. They talked about how past climate clues can be found in ice
packs and the history of IPY and how to bring this event into the classroom. These
