The author of this article give several ideas of simple science activities to send home with the students. You may not get back responses from all children, but the parents that respond give excellent insight into what the students are understanding about science. It seems worth the effort to me.

The activity in this article is a send home lesson that involves bubbles. The purpose of the activity is not learning about bubbles but to explore learning together with their children. Parents are encouraged to interact and record observations and all the materials are provided by the teacher for the families.
