This article discusses implementing nutrition education programs at the elementary level. In this activity students learn to read and compare the nutrition facts on food labels to help them choose ingredients to create their own smoothie. Students also collect and display data on a graph.

This article uses the 5E lesson plan format to explore the nutritional value of fruits and vegetables and then students decided what foods to put in a smoothie. Then it was evaluated for flavor and contents. Adults did most of the work while the students did the research. I think more student involvement in preparation would give them more ownership.
