This article describes some of the questions that appear in an online quiz for elementary students (website provided). Three astronomy questions are provided along with percentage of true or false answers, background information and an activity to help students overcome misconceptions. This would be interesting to look at to see overall how your students do on this quiz.

Four questions are presented to assess student understanding around phases of the moon. After each question there is a brief background explanation for each concept. There is a follow-up activity that helps students formalize the concept of moon phases. The question, “What to do about Pluto?” is also presented. An activity is referred to called “24 Solar System Cards”, Solar System Cards, mintaka.sdsu.edu/projectastro/resources/solarsystemcards.pdf. A note, when you want to read this whole article, you also need to search for and download, “What to do About Pluto”, as the article does not include the final two pages. The activity is a wonderful reinforcement as to how classification is a tool of Science.
