Evan Forde was the first Afro American oceanographer working for NOAA to participate in dives in research submersibles in 1979. He was inspired by a love for science as young as third grade, an interest in water sports, and the TV documentaries about Jacque Cousteau. He describes what his job requires and what young high school students need to do to prepare for such a job. His scariest moment is the highlight of this short interview.
