This article does a great job of breaking down the seven cross-cutting concepts into grade level expectations. The language in the article is clear, precise and easy to understand. The information presented in this article provides clarity on crosscutting concepts as they relate to the NGSS. This article is a must read for every educator.

This article unpacks the Second Dimension, Crosscutting Concepts, of the Framework. The author does a great job of showing that, while the crosscutting concepts are similar to efforts in NSES and Benchmarks, the new configuration is more robust and better organized than past efforts. A must-read.

The author begins by stating that education needs to be coordinated around Practices, Crosscutting Concepts, and Core Ideas. Also, the curriculum, instruction, and assessments need to be coordinated and aligned across grade bands. Begin with the seven Crosscutting Concepts, the author uses several charts to assist with explanations and further more divides expectations for each Concept into grade bands. A big challenge for teachers, according to the author, is thinking about planning lessons and units across grade
bands as student learning progresses within a grade and across grades.As with the other three articles in the NSTA series, to Introduce the new Framework for Science Standards, this is a must read for educators wishing to stay current with the best practices in teaching.
