6th Grade - Taxonomic classification, recognizing domains

Hello everyone, Life science is one of my weakest areas to teach.  Does anyone have some good ideas, lesson tips for taxonomic classification and domains?  I will be starting these after spring break.  I was hoping for something engaging, interesting. Any suggestions, thoughts, ideas are greatly appreciated! Kim 6th & 8th Grade science

When I used to teach this, I would start out with a short activity where students would be given a bag of assorted hardware (bolts, screws, nails, nuts, etc.) in random sizes and finishes. As a group they would have to figure out how the pieces went together or how they are grouped then create some sort of way for someone else to decipher their groupings. If I had an advanced group, I might have thrown in a few "ringer" pieces just to make them think harder.
