Lesson Plan on Density

Hello, I am a pre-service teacher at the University of Houston-Downtown. I am currently creating a 7E science lesson plan for 5th grade. The book I am using is called Maybe Something Beautiful: How Art Transformed a Neighborhood by F. Isabel Campoy and Theresa Howell. The lesson I created is about density. The students will be creating a sugar rainbow by using hot water (3 ounces per cup), measuring cup, food coloring (4 colors [2 drops per cup. Each cup is a different color]), sugar (no sugar in cup 1, 1 tablespoon in cup 2, 2 tablespoons in cup 3, and 3 tablespoons in cup 4), cups (4), spoons (4), pipettes (3), and a graduated cylinder.

My question is how can I elaborate (applications and extensions) and extend (make connections to other topics or subject areas) my lesson?

 Thank you in advance!
