What are some ways that you incorporate science into your kindergarten classroom?

I am currently a student, studying early childhood education so I haven't had my own classroom yet. But, I think you could do an activity with sinking and floating objects. You could also do a center with worms in it. Iv'e seen teachers shred newspaper and dirt and put it into a tub with a lid. Then they get real live worms and put them in the tub and let the students dig around in it with plastic gloves.

I am currently in my Methods of Teaching Science course during my last year of school. I am working with a group on a 5E lesson plan for kindergarten actually. We are focusing on the weather/forecast. So we have in the beginning that we introduce and work on the vocabulary that connects to the weather. (Sunny, rainy, stormy, thundering, lightening, cloudy, hot, cold, warm, etc.) Then each day the students get to go outside and observe what it's like and put a tally next to the vocabulary word (and a picture) that matches up with they think outside is like. Then the teacher will tell them the temperature and keep track and each day. Each day they will get to compare the temp to the day before and that day and decided which day was warmer/colder (realizing which number is higher/lower). The rest of our lesson will go into how the weather affects living things but we haven't got that far.
I hope I was some help to you and gave you a little idea!

There are various ways of incorporating science into kindergarten. A great way to do this is by using a 5E lesson plan to teach kindergarten physics. This can be accomplished with having the students use a hot wheel going down a ramp hitting a wooden block, the students can make observations on this and come up with predictions about why they think the wooden block reacts differently when hit by the hotwheel dropped from varying altitudes. There is a great article about this is Novembers issue of Science and Children!

I am very excited that we have had the chance to work on this science unit together. Although we are both learning the NGSS ways I am very excited to be able to potentially teach this unit one day. One thing that I think will really help the kids is the use and knowledge of vocabulary. I know that this is something that we aren't suppose to talk about right away however I am very pleased that we are giving small background knowledge because they will need to know and understand what to look for! I have enjoyed working with you and excited to finish the semester strong.
